Ed began his career as a software engineer at Lexcel in 1991 where he created a custom language interpreter and file-based database for the core UNIX-based TCP/IP network management product. In 1993 Ed joined fellow Harvey Mudd graduates Jeff Brewer and Jimmy Retzlaff at Animatrix, Inc. There he developed interactive interfaces and database systems, as well as a re-usable C++ class library. In 1996 Ed moved on to work at Micrografx where he was a software engineer producing FlowCharter, a Windows flowcharting application. He developed the generic data import wizard for corporate customers while owning the data field engine and spreadsheet user interfaces. In 1997 Ed went to work at Front Office Technologies where he designed client COM APIs and user interfaces for a Windows document management application.

In 1998 he joined Cruel World. There he wrote complex SQL queries, optimized query execution and result caching, developed a multi-threaded server application and internal, web-based applications.

Jeff's career as a software engineer begin in 1991 at Intuit, Inc. where he worked with Jason Chancey developing the Intellicharge credit card statement product for Quicken. In 1992 Jeff joined friend Jimmy Retzlaff at Animatrix, Inc. where he developed a re-usable C++ class library to speed development of interactive interfaces and database systems.

Jeff helped start Cruel World, an online recruiting company, in 1996. He designed and built the Cruel World corporate network and website. He also developed a user interface to the matching and billing systems used by the Cruel World sales and finance departments.

Jason started his software engineering career in the defense industry at Kaiser Electronics. In 1991 he moved into the world of consumer software by joining Intuit, Inc. where he developed features and components in both Quicken and Quickbooks. He also led Intuit's online banking efforts by developing the Intellicharge credit card statement product for Quicken and online-banking features in QuickBooks.

In 1996 Jason left Intuit to help start Cruel World. As a project manager and lead engineer, he led the design and implementation of major launches of the corporate website. He developed the online registration software used by millions of website visitors. And also an XML-based content management system which allowed marketing to rapidly produce and publish content.

Jimmy Retzlaff

In 1991 Jimmy graduated from Harvey Mudd College and went to work at Xerox. There he managed the development of Windows and Macintosh printer driver software for high-end Xerox products. He joined Jeff Brewer and Ed Bowen at Animatrix in 1992 where he developed interactive interfaces and database systems for Animatrix's clients. Jimmy was also a lead developer of a re-usable C++ class library designed to aid in the rapid development of Animatrix applications.

In 1996 he joined Cruel World as the chief architect of database technology. Jimmy was responsible for development of Cruel World's back-end systems, including development of heavily used matching technology as well as parts of the JobCast mechanism.

Lun-Shin Yuen

Lun has lead a successful career building and managing companies and their products. In 1988, after completing degrees at Stanford, Berkeley, and UC Santa Cruz, Lun went to work at Intuit, Inc. where he developed the DOS and Windows versions of Quicken. In 1992 Lun began managing many of Intuit's international efforts, including their first subsidiary in the U.K. He also developed the first U.K. version of Quicken. By 1995 Lun was managing Intuit's international QuickBooks group.

Lun became co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Cruel World in 1996. He developed the company's strategic business direction and managed the day to day technical aspects of the business. He also led due diligence efforts on both sides during potential acquisition periods.
